While at a shopping centre we came across this play area. Our kids love the Ice Age movies so we stopped to have a look.
This picture is blurred (except for Jitterbug) to hide the faces of other kids in the picture. (Because I would hate to randomly come across my kids’ picture on someone’s blog.) But you can see this was in the middle of an outdoor shopping centre.
A snow machine above would turn on every so often and spit snow onto the crowd below.
There were plenty of shovels and other, um, sand toys to play with. After all, there are many more places in Australia to play with beach toys than snow toys.
Ladybug was not too keen and didn’t stay in there long.
This is the most snow our kids have seen in three years. And of course with all the shoes trampling this snow it wasn’t very nice.
Okay, there are places to see snow in Australia. Real snow that you can play in. We are lucky to live within a couple of hours of such a place. We haven’t been there yet, because we moved here from snow. And the desire to see it again has not yet returned, at least for us parent folk. Here’s an old picture of the boys in the snow…
I much prefer the palm trees! 😉

Hi Sheryll,
This post makes me laugh. I've lived my whole life in melbourne and have only seen snow a handful of times. It's funny how here, to see the snow is somewhat of an excursion. Something to plan (and to budget) for. I know a lady who used to live on east coast of America and now resides in Melbourne. When asked if she would like to go to the "snow"', she replied. "no thanks" she had enough of it when it used to cover her fence for three months of the year. Lol.
All the best with the homeschooling. We are in our second year.
Sumeiya.
