To go with SOTW Chapter 5 we made Sumerian seals. The project was listed in the Activity Guide, but I decided to use the example here instead. (Scroll to the end of the post). It was a little different than the AG but gave us a chance to use a hot glue gun. Fun stuff, right? I don’t think either of my boys had ever used one before. (Guess that reveals the crafty level in our house!) We glued uncooked pasta and popcorn kernels to some toilet paper tubes.
Jitterbug was very intent with his, he made several. He loved using the glue gun. Every so often I’d hear his sharp intake of breath and look over to see that he’d touched the hot glue again. It cools so quickly but he kept trying to even out his globs of glue with his fingers.
Then we rolled our seals in some clay to see what pattern it would make.
Ladybug enjoyed playing with the clay just like it was play-dough. Leaves more residue on the hands, though.
We didn’t keep these, I ended up putting all the clay back into an air-tight package for use another time. Glad we did this just for the hot glue gun fun!
