One of our favourite science books is The Berenstain Bears’ Big Book of Science and Nature.
It’s a Sonlight book, part of their P4/5 core. Meaning it’s for preschoolers, about ages 4-5. It didn’t come coil bound. We loved the book so much that the cover came completely off the book and I had to coil bind it to keep it together. There are three sections in the book, I guess it is really three books put together. First an almanac. It goes through the seasons, discussing things that happen during each. The months are named and are, of course, tied to American seasons. Christmas being in winter. It’s a topic of discussion in our house anyway since we have relatives in America.
Next up is a Nature Guide, discusses animals, plants, earth.
Lastly a Science Fair.
I’m not a huge fan overall of Berenstain Bears, but I’m glad we own this one. The rhyming text makes it pleasurable to read aloud. Heaps of facts, less of the annoying way Papa Bear is portrayed (though he features heavily in the Science Fair portion). Jitterbug is loving this book right now, and Skeeterbug still likes to look through it occasionally. It looks like this book is being re-published in January. You can read reviews and pre-order here at Amazon, or here at Book Depository. From the description it appears to be the same book, and at a much lower price point than Sonlight. 🙂
