Okay, it’s not really a sensory bin. A diorama, maybe?
We’ve just finished a camping theme. After the coloured rice last month, I wanted something a little less messy. I found this cute printable camping set. It’s really a calendar, I just turned the caravan around. I figured the kids wouldn’t notice the calendar part anyway. (There is a different printable calendar each month, join their email list to get the Calendar of the Month. Very cute!) I added a green piece of felt for grass and cut out a blue piece for a lake. I grabbed (and washed) some pebbles out of the backyard to go near the lake. See the little fishing pole?
I added some peg people. I printed the camping set on cardstock, so the chairs are actually strong enough to hold the peg people. Those little people needed a place to sleep, so I made a quick tent out of stiffened felt and some little sleeping bags and pillows out of scrap pieces of felt. The little trees in the background are borrowed from some playset or other that we have (held down with sticky tack).
Best part? No mess. But those little pillows…Ladybug has already stolen them for her dollhouse. 🙂 I did the sewing while Skeeterbug was doing some of his independent schoolwork across the table from me. Most of the curriculum we have is pretty teacher-intensive, but there are some things he does independently. (I’m wondering how all that teacher-intensive stuff is going to work when I’m trying to teach all three kids at the same time!) I like to have a pile of things to work on while he is doing his work so that I’m not just twiddling my thumbs.
